Play On, Dallas!

Play On, Dallas! was a 3-month long installation series by Leigha Lugo and the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. It featured three pianos, which Leigha intricately painted and placed in popular areas across Dallas. Her goal was to make art and music more accessible to the public. My role: design a brochure for the kick-off ceremony and provide lettering for one of the pianos.

The project kicked-off with an afternoon event in Main Street Garden Park, where three local pianists entertained a downtown crowd with some tunes. Our crew then moved the pianos to their final installation spots at the Dallas Farmers Market, Pegasus Plaza, and Love Field Airport. They were immediately a hit! As soon as we dropped the pianos off, people began to play them.

I'm happy to have contributed hand-painted lettering to the above piano, which lived at the Dallas Love Field Airport for three months! The front of this piano is covered with a banana pattern (below), inspired by the performance of Tank and the Bangas during their NPR Music Tiny Desk concert.
